Battle Report 17.04.2017

Battle Report 17.04.2017

Flank, Head Hunter
Claim Jump, Eliminate the Leadership, Set Up, Leave your Mark, Dig their Graves
Time until our next tournament was actually too long, so here is another report. This Report is about the rematch against Michael. There is not much to say before. It was a really close game as always.
Again it was a match of nature versus madness.

Arcanists: (Eliminate the Leadership, Leave your Mark)
  • Marcus (Trail of Gods, Feral Instincts, The Hunger Cry) 6 SS
  • Rogue Necromancy (Imbued Energies)
  • Joss (Imbued Energies) represented by Johanna
  • Hoarcat Pride
  • Jackalope
  • Myranda (Imbued Energies)
  • Arcane Effigy
  • Malifaux Raptor

Outcast: (Claim Jump, Set Up [Necromancy])
  • Leveticus (Survivalist, Pariah of Iron, Oathkeeper) 5 SS
  • Joss (Oathkeeper, Scramble)
  • Ashes & Dust (Scout the Field)
  • Hodgepodge Effigy
  • Freikorps Librarian (Oathkeeper)
  • 2x Hollow Waif
  • Abomination

Deployment:
I won the flip and deployed first.
Turn 1
I won the flip for Initiative and let Michael go first.
  • 1st activation AC: Raptor turned Joss into a beast, but needed both attacks, because the first one was BJ.
  • 1st activation OC: First Waif double walked.
  • 2nd activation AC: Cat double walked.
  • 2nd activation OC: Abo double walked into cover.
  • 3rd activation AC: Jackalope also walked towards the center staying in cover.
  • 3rd activation OC: Effigy gave his condition to Levi and then walked a bit.
  • 4th activation AC: Necromancy walked once and attacked the Abo with its Ca, missing because I cheated a high card.
  • 4th activation OC: A&D walked twice and placed a scheme marker.
  • 5th activation AC: Effigy took (0) on Marcus and walked a bit.
  • 5th activation OC: Second Waif double walked.
  • 6th activation AC: Myranda walked twice towards Michael’s Joss.
  • 6th activation OC: Levi sacrificed A&D for 2 cards, walked once, focused and took a double focused shot on the Jackalope, giving me a soul stone.
  • 7th activation AC: Joss just walked a bit thinking he stopped out of my reach. Michal forgot about Scramble at this point.
  • 7th activation OC: Librarian walked once and healed Levi.
  • 8th activation AC: Marcus took Alpha on the Necromancy and then walked towards Joss. The Necromancy killed my Abo this time with its range attack and then walked back.
  • 8+9th activation OC: A&D parts just reunited.
  • 10th activation OC: Dr. Freeze Joss dropped Oathkeeper and charged the other Joss who had 7 lives left. Dealing weak with the first attack which was prevented down to 2 damage. Second attack hit with a double minus on damage and of course I flipped moderate this time….. Giving Michaels Joss reactivate.
  • 9th activation AC: Joss dropped Imbued Energies and hits 3 times and of course my Joss was left at 2 wounds left for no reactivate…
Turn 2

Michael won initiative and used his chance.
  • 1st activation AC: Marcus activated, turned Dr. Freeze into a beast, put him on minus flips and then killed him (Ml expert+1AP). Then he walked back a bit, took the head and accomplished Myranda.
  • 2nd activation AC: Myranda healed Joss for 5 wounds without spending a hand card and sacrificed herself for a Blessed and 4 cards.
  • 1st activation OC: A&D used the Scrap from the Abo to change the side of the table and picked up the head marker from the Abo.
  • 3rd activation AC: Joss just walked in cover behind the house.
  • 2nd activation OC: Waif charged the Cat, doing nothing.
  • 4th activation AC: Cat attacked Waif, suffering one damage from the Waif’s trigger, but dealing no damage itself.
  • 3rd activation OC: Effigy did his (0) and double walked.
  • 5th activation AC: Raptor buried itself.
  • 4th activation OC: Levi dropped Oathkeeper, jumped towards A&D and shot at Joss twice. One time focused, one time double focused, but I wasn’t able to deal enough damage, even with RJ on hand, but Michael’s flips and hand were too good.
  • 6th activation AC: Effigy just walked towards Marcus.
  • 5th activation OC: Second Waif walked a bit.
  • 7th activation AC: Necromancy walked once and took a shot on Levi.
  • 6th activation OC: Librarian walked once and healed Levi a bit.
  • 8th activation AC: Blessed leaped and walked once towards the left flank.
  • 7+8th activation OC: A&D reunited again and core fasted Effigy.

Both scored Head Hunter, Raptor denied me Claim Jump and Michael scored Eliminate for bringing me down below half wounds. 2-1 for Arcanists.
Turn 3

Michael won initiative.
  • 1st activation AC: Marcus walked once and casted Alpha on the Necromancy which dropped imbued energies, walked and charged Levi. Levi was brought down to his hard to kill.
  • 1st activation OC: Librarian dropped Oathkeeper and healed Levi 3 times.
  • 2nd activation AC: Necromancy again brought Levi down to the last wound and gave him 1 poison.
  • 2nd activation OC: Waif attacked the Cat two times for zero damage.
  • 3rd activation AC: Effigy walked to the left side.
  • 3rd activation OC: Second Waif engaged the Raptor.
  • 4th activation AC: Raptor attacked Waif twice, but missed both times.
  • 4th activation OC: A&D walked once used his (0) on the scrap from Joss, placed a scheme maker and then engaged Joss.
  • 5th activation AC: Cat killed my Waif with first hit and then walked towards A&D.
  • 5th activation OC: My Effigy dropped two scheme marker.
  • 6th activation AC: Blessed walked once, leaped and then attacked Levi once, missing him.
  • 6th activation OC: With no cards left for a Horror duel and on 1 wound plus poison, Levi tried to disengage 3 times and after he failed he sacrificed himself.
  • 7th activation OC: Summoned Waif walked once.

We both didn’t score Head Hunter. Michael got another point for Eliminate and I score 2 on Set Up and 1 on Claim Jump. 3-4 for Outcast.
Turn 4….

Michael won initiative and went first.
  • 1st activation AC: Marcus walked once towards A&D and killed it. Placing Marcus in a way that I couldn’t summon the Core. At this stage we were not sure if I was allowed to summon the Storm.
  • 1st activation OC: Levi killed Joss.

…and 5

I guess at this stage I can sum it up.
None of us was able to kill any important. Michael picked up heads another two times and in turn 5 I was able to score Claim Jump a second time and Michael scored Leave your Mark once.
So the Game ended 6-5 for Arcanists.
I think against a strong opponent it is really hard to win with Levi, if Eliminate is in the pool.
I was really glad that I tried the Librarian and Joss (with Scramble). Got some great ideas for my next tournament where I plan to not lose a single game.
But this was one of the most exciting games for a long time.

Battle Report 12.04.2017

Battle Report 12.04.2017

Flank, Turf War
Claim Jump, Search the Ruins, Quick Murder, Frame for Murder, Accusation

This will be my last Report before our next tournament in Vienna. This time it was against our LGS owner, Tris. He is the missing one, if you are looking for our local Top4J. You know Ben from my battle report who by the way, has his own blog. http://starwarsmalifaux.blogspot.co.at/p/home.html

You now Markus from my final tournament game, Michael from my last battle report and know you will “meet” Tris. Pre-impressions of the game: I don’t like to blame the cards because there is most of the time a way to play around a bad hand. To save letters later on and for you to be not confused way none of my attacks went through, I tell you now that the highest card I drew after turn 1 until the end, was a 9.

But actually I didn’t lost this game because of that, but because I took the wrong schemes as you will see.

Still it was a funny game, my first against Nellie so I learned a lot about this master. And I would have taken the wrong converted master if I couldn’t laugh about it.

PS: Next report will also picture a new table. This one is just the only one upstairs in the store, so that visitors can have a look.

Guild: (Search the Ruins, Frame for Murder)

  • Nellie (Embedded, Delegation, Misleading Headlines) 4 SS

  • 3rd activation GD: Johan walked towards the left corner.
  • 4th activation OC: First Waif double walked.
  • 4th activation GD: Ronin walked behind the house near the center.
  • 5th activation OC: Thorn double walked to engage this Ronin and uses her (0) to place a Scheme marker.

  • 7th activation GD: Ronin with 1 wound left dropped a scheme marker near Nellie and walked out of Los.
  • 8th activation OC: Second Waif double walked.
  • 8th activation GD: Burt went reckless, double walked and shot the Crooligan once for 2 damage.
  • 9th activation OC: With no good target in range, Levi just walked twice and took a focus shot at Burt, missing him. Waifed himself.
  • 9th activation GD: Nellie pushed as (0), fasted Phiona and the Ronin (plus heal) and the attacked Crooligan once, missing him.
  • 10th activation OC: Strongarm double walked to center and took his (0)
  • 10th activation GD: Phiona walked and charged Strongarm dealing him and herself 1 point of damage.

Turn 2
Tris won initiative.
  • 1st activation GD: Printing Press focused and gave Nellie Evidence and let her chain activate.
  • 2nd activation GD: Nellie, afraid of frame, used her damage and her condition cast on the Crooligan (pushing him with trigger), tried to fast Burt but failed. And then tried to incite the Crooligan, but also failed. (He had only high cards he didn’t want to waste.
  • 1st activation OC: Strongarm dropped Oathkeeper and charged Burt Jepson with the extra damage (0). Bringing him to 1 wound with the first attack. But then missing twice because Tris cheated a Queen and the RJ to safe him.
  • 3rd activation GD: Tris skipped it.
  • 2nd activation OC: Levi dropped Oathkeeper sacrificed Crooligan for port, took a focus shot at Phiona to slow her and then shot at the Ronin double focus with soul stoned Crow and BJed the damage….
  • 4th activation GD: Thrall failed in killing the Plague.
  • 3rd activation OC: Plague flight to the middle in safety.
  • 5th activation GD: Phiona used her (1) to jump towards the Strongarm and hit him once for moderate.
  • 4th activation OC: Thorn “lured” Burt towards her and attacked him twice, hitting him once, but he redirected the hit to the Ronin.
  • 6th activation GD: Tris skipped it.
  • 5th activation OC: Dog walked a placed a Scheme Marker. (should have taken Claim Jump :P)
  • 7th activation GD: Johann double walked to engage Strongarm.
  • 6th activation OC: Abo double walked in base contact with the enemy scheme marker.
  • 8th activation GD: Ronin activated, but failed Thorns WP duel and disengaged towards the Strongarm.
  • 7th activation OC: First Waif double walked.
  • 9th activation GD: Ronin (Frame) engaged Levi.
  • 8th activation OC: Second Waif walked a bit.

  • 9th activation OC: Hans shot Nellie twice for some damage.

Both scored Turf War. 1-1
Turn 3
Tris won initiative.
  • 1st activation GD: Printing Press focused and gave Nellie Evidence and let her chain activate.
  • 2nd activation GD: Nellie, again afraid of frame, used her damage and her condition cast on the Strongarm. And with the failed WP duels Phiona also hit him once and because of my bad hand they get him down to exactly 1 wound, slow and the condition for 2 damage as soon he activates…. Luckily I flipped a high card for resisting against incite. So I won some time.
  • 1nd activation OC: Levi attacked the Ronin with 3 wounds left, dealing 1 point of damage… and waifed himself.
  • 3rd activation GD: Ronin double walked towards the center.
  • 2nd activation OC: Thorn was able to hit Burt once to kill him.
  • 4th activation GD: Thrall charged Waif hitting her once.
  • Other activations OC: The whole rest of my crew used all of their AP to kill the Ronin with 2 wounds, giving Tris 2 Points for Frame.
  • Other activations GD: The rest of Tris Crew moved around and killed some of my models.

Both scored Turf War and Tris got his Frame points. 4-2 for the Guild

Turn 4 and 5
Tris won Initiative.

To not overstrain the word “failed” I will put down the last two turn in a few sentences.
None of my models got a single attack through but got hit very oft. Bad flips and even worse hand.
Levi dealt 0 damage over the last two turn. Have never seen something like this. :D It was crazy.
If I had won only 1 flip in turn 5 I would have scored at least Search the Ruins, but no.
The game ended 9-4 for Guild because I could score the strat.
So what to say about this game?

First of all my decision which Schemes to take was crap. Tris played it really good so even with normal hand cards the game would have been hard to win. And that Tris apologized for the game says enough. But that’s Malifaux, where bad things happen and because of this, we love it. I learned a lot about Nellie which is good for the upcoming tournament and I learned to use Thorn in a better way than I did before.
If I sum it up, it still was a good game. J
