Battle Report 08.04.2017

Standard, Extraction
Claim Jump, Set Up, Eliminate the Leadership, Show of Force, Leave your Mark

This time the funniest criminal in Malifaux met the Master of Beasts. My opponent was Michael, who got the second place on the tournament report I wrote last time. He is a really strong player and most of our games end VERY close. Same this time. I will whine a lot during this report so be prepared.   ;P

Arcanists: (Eliminate the Leadership, Leave your Mark)

  • Marcus (Trail of Gods, Feral Instincts, The Hunger Cry) 4 SS
  • Miss Step (Imbued Energies)
  • Joss (Imbued Energies)
  • Hoarcat Pride
  • Jackalope
  • Myranda (Imbued Energies)
  • Arcane Effigy
  • Malifaux Raptor

Outcast: (Eliminate the Leadership, Leave your Mark)

  • Leveticus (Desolate Soul, Pariah of Iron, Oathkeeper) 6 SS
  • Joss (Oathkeeper, The Bigger They Are)
  • Strongarm Suit (Scout the Field)
  • Winged Plague
  • Desolate Engine (Oathkeeper)
  • 2x Hollow Waif

Deployment:

Michael won the flip and let me deploy first. And here I made my biggest, super stupid mistake because of damned laziness…..

I gave up the side with the perfect house with the red roof in the center… you will see it in the ongoing game…

Turn 1
Michael won the flip for Initiative and let me go first.

  • 1st activation OC: First Waif double walked.
  • 1st activation AC: Raptor hit Miss Step and Joss for 1 damage, turning both into beasts.
  • 2nd activation OC: Second Waif double walked.
  • 2nd activation AC: Jackalope Leaped and walked twice.
  • 3rd activation OC: Winged Plague flew to times.
  • 3rd activation AC: Effigy handed out his condition and walked twice behind the red house.
  • 4th activation OC: Levi walked twice and turned Jackalope into an Abo with his focus shot. Then he sacrificed himself.
  • 4th activation AC: Cat double walked on the flank.
  • 5th activation OC: Slow waif walked once.
  • 5th activation AC: Myranda double walked into cover.
  • 6th activation OC: Strongarm (forgot his Scout the Field Move…) walked twice.
  • 6th activation AC: Joss walked behind the red house.
  • 7th activation OC: My Joss (will call him Dr. Freeze from now on) double walked at the flank.
  • 7th activation AC: Marcus walked behind the red house.
  • 8th activation OC: Desolate Engine dropped Oathkeeper, walked 3 times engaging and trying to hit Marcus once, but failed.
  • 8th activation AC: Miss Step double walked to the right and did her cover aura once.

Turn 2
Michael won initiative with a 13.
  • 1st activation AC: Miss Step nimbled a bit towards the Engine and flurried her to death.
  • 1st activation OC: Dr. Freeze dropped his Oathkeeper and charged Miss Step, which would have killed her because of the bigger they are if I hit her twice. But Michaels hand was to strong and I hit her only once, but after that attack Michael hand only one card left.
  • 2nd activation AC: Raptor buried itself.
  • 2nd activation OC: Abo walked once and placed a Leave your Marker.
  • 3rd activation AC: Effigy did nothing except his (0) action.
  • 3rd activation OC: Spawned Abo walked once to engage Marcus and Stepy.
  • 4th activation AC: Myranda healed Miss Step twice and sacrificed for a Cerberus. And there my doom began… because 3 of the 4 cards he drew from her sacrifice were high rams.
  • 4th activation OC: Waif double walked to engage Cat.
  • 5th activation AC: Marcus activated tried to hit the Abo once but failed since he wanted to keep his high rams. Then he Alphad Miss Step stoning for a Mask, forgetting about the aura of the Abo. But of course he luckily had a high enough tome on hand… Then Miss Step flurried Mr. Freeze free times with rams… after 3 SS stones and my last to cards he still got killed…… that hurt.
  • 5th activation OC: Second Abo walked once in safety.
  • 5th activation AC: Cat attacked Waif, missing both.
  • 6th activation OC: Other Waif walked a bit.
  • 6th activation AC: Cerberus failed leaping and walked once.
  • 7th activation OC: Strongarm walked towards the center and took his (0) action.
  • 7th activation AC: Joss took the decoy, dropped Oathkeeper and charged him. The problem was only that Joss hit both times…
  • 8th activation OC: Levi walked once and took a charge on Joss. Of course hitting only once to hand out reactivate.
  • 8th activation AC: Joss hit Strongarm leave him on one wound but got killed by the condition of the Freikorps.
  • 9th activation OC: Plague walked towards the marker.

Both scored Extraction, but I did it with more models. And Michael already had his first point from Eliminate the Leadership. I scored Leave you Mark. 2-2

Turn 3
After we both used a SS for initiative, Michael won it again.

And it was my 3rd bad hand in this game…

  • 1st activation AC: Miss Step dropped Imbued Energies, killed Abo, nimbled and then flurried Strongarm into pieces.
  • 1st activation OC: Last Abo left at the corner double walked, to engage Marcus and keep him in its aura.
  • 2nd activation AC: Cat missed Waif two times.
  • 2nd activation OC: Waif missed Cat two times.
  • 3rd activation AC: Raptor double walked to engage the Abo at the flank.
  • 3rd activation OC: Abo failed to disengage and hit Raptor once.
  • 4th activation AC: Marcus killed Abo with his second attack and walked once, but not too far because he was afraid of Levi.
  • 4th activation OC: Winged Plague moved to be within 6” of the Extraction Marker.
  • 5th activation AC: Effigy just walked a bit also afraid of Levi.
  • 5th activation OC: Second Waif charged Cerberus dealing no damage.
  • 6th activation AC: Cerberus killed Waif and walked once, failing his leap.
  • 6th activation OC: Levi walked twice still within Extraction range and laid down a Scheme Marker.

I scored Leave your Mark and Extraction. 4-2 for Outcasts. Looks good in VP, but at this stage the Game was nearly lost for me.

Turn 4
First time I won initiative. Too late, but I was still happy.

First time my hand cards were good.
  • 1st activation OC: My only chance to gain points was hitting and killing Marcus how was on 9 wounds left so hitting him twice once with severe and once with weak would be enough. BJ was out of my deck because I dropped it last turn. I didn’t free focus because that would have given Michael the 3rd point for Eliminate. So I walked once and charge Marcus. First attack: I won the flip. Michael of course had a king… so I cheated my queen with the discard trigger and discarded 3 card to be on a plus. Flipped two weak damage and had to cheat my King L second attack: Michael won the flip and I cheated my last card, a 10, but of course Michael had a queen to block it.  -_- Then I waifed Levi to not give the half live point on Eliminate and engaged Marcus and Effigy with the Waif.
  • 1st activation AC: Marcus killed Waif with first attack and walked towards Extraction Marker.
  • 2nd activation OC: Waif tried to disengage the cat to engage the Cerberus but failed….
  • 2nd activation AC: Cat RJed Waif.
  • 3rd activation OC: Luckily my Abo also RJed the Raptor with the first attack so I scored Leave your Mark a 3rd time.
  • 3rd activation AC: Missy killed Plague and walked to marker.
  • 4th activation AC: Effigy walked towards the marker too.
  • 5th activation AC: Cerberus walked and placed a Scheme Marker.

Michael scored Extraction and Leave your Mark and I scored Leave your Mark and 1 point for Eliminate 6-4.

At this stage we stopped because there was no way for me to prevent Michael from scoring 3 VP in Turn 5 and I won’t score anything.

So it ended with a very close 6-7 for Arcanists.

There was a bit too much bad luck on my side to honestly enjoy every moment of this game. But in sum it was very exciting and you only learn if you lose. And to be fair Michael just played very well so even with more luck on my side it is not sure how the game would have ended.
